Hello everybody! You all everybody! Ooo..a reference to Lost already, in the first sentence I post-this can't be good. Let me start again.
Ahem...
Well, I decided to start this blog to help motivate myself. I want to make a career out of drawing, and I decided that the best way to start would be to get my feet wet freelancing. I live too far from any kind of studio and am not able to move at the moment, so this seems like the best option. I go into this very aware of myself, and aware of the struggle that I know is before me. There will be some hard times, and I think by documenting the process I can help remind myself during those hard times that there is a really good reason for bearing them. I refuse to give up on the dream that I know I can attain, which is to become a professional illustrator and animator.
So I hereby begin my journey by setting specific goals. The first is to simply become a freelance illustrator and identify which markets suit me. I'm really feelin' portraiture, children's book illustration, and fantasy art. I'll continue to learn to animate and hopefully one day finish a decent short film. Good animation takes lots of practice and time, and honestly I don't believe there are very many great animators out there, and I am not yet one of them. Building upon my illustration experience will definately help me be a better animator.
I've been in the process of writing up a coherent business plan. I have already learned so much! After the new year I'm going to get a simple part-time job to help fund my business until it takes off (I've been "finding myself" since college graduation a few months ago. My husband is very understanding). My biggest concern now is getting a business license, I guess that is really my first goal. Baby steps :) I am terrified and yet very very excited about what awaits.
Just a little more about me...CassiePants is a nickname that my parents called me as a child, which, the more I thought of it, I really like. Pants, like hats, serve as occupational and personality symbols: a cowboy's wranglers, a mechanic's coveralls, a rocker's tight leather pants, a fashionista's capri's, a business man's slacks. Most artists donne relaxed jeans with plenty of pockets, some wear and tare, sometimes a little paint. Regardless of sterotypes, everyone has his own pants. HaHa (sorry I get cheesy) As I'm going through my twenties, I'm still finding out my own denims. I want to stay true to myself so that I can remain a true artist. Besides visual art, my hobbies include reading, dancing, singing, and being completely obsessed with the tv show Lost, which is actually a great work of art in it's own right. And with that, I'll say Nameste.
